Converting in only three steps
EXR files are often encountered when receiving or creating renderings or images from the film and 3D industries. This format is intended for professional post-processing and cannot be easily opened with most common programs. Converting it to PNG solves this problem, as the result is a standard image that can be viewed, reused, and shared anywhere. Unlike conversion to JPEG, transparency is preserved. If the EXR file contains an alpha channel, such as for a cutout object (without a background), PNG can directly incorporate it. Furthermore, PNG compresses without loss of quality, so the image remains as sharp as possible. However, the HDR dynamic range of the EXR file is slightly reduced, which is perfectly adequate for on-screen display. If file size is more important than transparency, converting EXR to JPG is a viable alternative.
